As your eyes grow accustomed to the gloom, you find yourself in a chamber that appears to be a strange inversion of the one you just left. The walls, floor, and ceiling here are jet black, and the orientation of the room is reversed so that the door now lies to the west and the second stone arch is on the north wall. What was a rubble fall to the northeast is now a rift where the floor has collapsed in the southwest. Along the walls, globes of gray glass give off a dim light.
Adric Kain: Oh. I'll have bait take care of it
Wolfsbane: Hm, wonder if that's obsidian.
Adric Kain: That covers up the plot hole of what happens to him
Serra: "Well, this is a rather depressing environment to walk into."
* Faiz rumbles.
* Adric Kain does that, then goes into the portal like everyone else
Azar Macan: Hm, this is...?
Imban: It seems like there's been a bit of a ruckus here. There's several overturned stools, and the doors to the north are ajar.
Imban: (( hey Adric/Faiz you can full heal you know ))
Adric Kain: Adric Kain is healed and gains 21 hit points.
Faiz: Faiz is healed and gains 7 hit points.
Adric Kain: Just to be clear did he says Shadowfell or Shadowdark?
* Imban eats whoever renamed it.
Serra: "Shadowfell. The Shadowdark is deeper."
Faiz: ...THE... BLACKWRONG.

Serra: "At least it's not Scarytown."

Wolfsbane: How's that different from Double Hell?
Adric Kain: I'd rather be in Double Hell than Scarytown.
* Osaou waves to the Imban from the dream!
* Imban rises up from the cracks in the corner of the room.
Imban: Stop telling bad jokes and go already. >:E

* Wolfsbane puts her hand on Serra's shoulder, Obsidian, obsidian everywhere.
* Imban then sinks back into the darkness.
Wolfsbane: Yeah I can't... open this.
Serra: "Oh, sorry. Right, right, let's get going. ...Wait, what?"
Imban: The door is actually ajar, so.
Wolfsbane: No it's not GM, don't lie. That's a door.
Imban: The land before you is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. A wide plain of gray-green grass and stunted black trees spreads beneath a sky scoured by fast-moving clouds. The sun is bright above but somehow doesn’t cut the darkness that drapes every rock and every blade of grass in gray gloom. This is the Shadowfell.
Imban: From the mouth of the cavern, a wide and well-traveled road runs in a curving line to the north. There, perhaps a quarter-mile away, a military camp spreads. Buildings are scattered here and there, with tents and pavilions spreading between them. Torches and fires burn brightly against the ever-present shadow, and lone trees and tall stands of graygreen grass are whipped by a hissing wind.
Imban: Looming above it all, a rise of black rock to the west is rent by a seething volcanic rift. Black-streaked lava courses from it to descend into a narrow channel, and a permanent pall of glowing red-black smoke rises above it. Over this molten flow, a great stone bridge is arched. This wide eastwest road meets the road north from the cavern. North of the bridge, a tall tower stands and a lower building spreads in its shadow.
Adric Kain: My god. This is like being drunk and on depressants at the same time.
Wolfsbane: You ... sure this wasn't Double Hell?
Azar Macan: If this place needs it, it shall feel the light of SUN VULCAN!
Threden: (( You have been banished to the underworld, never to see the light of day again. ))
Azar Macan: (( and then Azar Masaki's and is lost for a session ))
Imban: So, what do you plan on doing? Just walk in to Scarytown, or...?!
Faiz: HAHA.
Wolfsbane: (( Seeing where we're going would be a good start ))
Faiz: IT'S LIKE HOME.
Faiz: EXCEPT WITH MORE LAVA.
Adric Kain: Do we have any idea where we're going?
Wolfsbane: Why not the big ominous building.
Wolfsbane: That seems important.
Faiz: MAYBE A BIT MORE CAMP METROPOLIS.
Serra: "Let us go to the military camp. At least it looks like an inhabited place."
Threden: OBSERVATION: Inhabited locations contain reconnaissance information.
Adric Kain: Good idea. Kill all the trained and well armed people first and we'll have an easier time afterward.
Imban: You and what army?!
Serra: (( * Adric's alignment becomes: Chaotic Evil ))
Imban: That said, on the way towards the camp, a voice rings out, and two dark creeper sentries suddenly appear where the shadows of the tall grass had hidden them. “All mercenaries stay within the borders of the camps!” one shouts angrily. “Next time you go wandering, you get shot, sellswords!”
Faiz: BAH.
Imban: Apparently you've been mistaken for mercenaries. In... someone's employ.
Adric Kain: You say that like getting shot is something unfamiliar to a mercenary.
Dark Creeper 1: "Most aren't stupid enough to want it."
Azar Macan: Perhaps they have those giant crossbows.
Faiz: I'D LIKE TO SAY I'M PRETTY GOOD AT GETTING SHOT.
Serra: "Indeed. I doubt many would risk being shot by one of those. Especially in the vicinity of a perilous cliff."
Dark Creeper 2: "Bah. I guess not ALL of the mercenaries can be useful. Anyway, off you go, to Umbraforge. Wandering around WILL get you killed, so bide your time in training and outfitting there."
Faiz: REH.
Dark Creeper 2: You approach the frontier of the mercenary camps unchallenged, and a virtual city spreads out before you. Beneath patched canvas tents stand open-air taverns, market stalls, apothecaries and herbalists, weaponsmiths and armorers, butchers and greengrocers—all doing roaring trade.
Imban: Training grounds open up between the various camps, and soldiers of different races clash against each other with sword and shield. In the quieter corners, you see combat casters training—the flare of arcane fire dancing between them. But as you approach, you notice with surprise that these are not Shadowfell mercenaries for the most part. Though shadar-kai and dark ones are well represented, the fields and camps are packed with orcs and hobgoblins, ogres and trolls, lizardfolk and kobolds and a dozen other monstrous races of the world.
Faiz: ...WELL OKAY THIS ISN'T LIKE HOME AT ALL.
Imban: Also, there seems to be a minor earthquake as you arrive.
Wolfsbane: I think we have stepped into a monstrous compendium.
Adric Kain: Just a bit.
Serra: "Faiz, was that you just now shaking the earth?"
Imban: (( But yeah, I linked a map of Umbraforge in chat earlier. ))
Faiz: COULD BE. I MAKE NO SOLID ANSWER.
Serra: "With that said, quite the assortment of... folk have managed to gather here."
Adric Kain: I wonder what they plan on doing.
Imban: Well, it'll be time for you to find that out... NEXT TIME, in SCales of War!
